Nairn Academy Press Notes – 7th November

Halloween Disco

The Halloween disco, which was held on Tuesday the 1st November, was very enjoyable for all. Thanks go to the Sixth Year pupils who helped organise the event, and also to staff who gave up their time to help make the event a success. Photographs were taken by Sixth Year pupil Erin Semple and these will be available to purchase.

North of Scotland Debate

The Third round of the North of Scotland School Debate Competition was held at Nairn Academy on Thursday 3rd November.  Sixth Year pupils Amy McCann and Ruby Downie were competing for the school. The debate was highly successful with the Nairn team finishing in first place- having finished first in the previous two rounds- and the team has secured a place in the final which will be held on the 25th November in Inverness- parents and pupils are welcome to attend to participate in the floor debate and to provide support.


The school now has separate bin which take paper and plastic bottles. All pupils are encouraged to use these bins as much as possible.


Assemblies this week will focus on Remembrance.

Parental Newsletter

The next parental newsletter will be issued on Friday 11th November.

Parents’ Meetings

The Third Year parents meeting will be held on Tuesday 8th November form 4- 6.30pm at the school. The First Year parents evening will take place on Wednesday 16th November.

Parent Council

The Parent Council EGM (extra general meeting) will be held on Tuesday 8th November at 7pm at the school. As many parents as possible are encouraged to attend this meeting to make sure that this organisation can continue to run.

Reception Shop

A reception shop, run by Sixth Year pupils, is now open every morning from 8.45 -9am where pupils can purchase basic stationary items at a reasonable price if they require extra equipment.




Any pupil who still has textbooks from any department is requested that they bring them back as soon as possible. The English Department have also asked that pupils who have books that are in good quality that they no longer want can donate them to the school.

English Folio Drop-In Sessions

Support sessions are held every Thursday, from 3.45-4.45pm in the library until Christmas.  Pupils are encouraged to attend and make use of ICT facilities, the library and staff who are on hand to help.


On Wednesday 2nd November, there were two Basketball games held at Millburn, for the First Year team and the Under 15’s, who won their match. Monday the 7th saw the Under 13’s, Under 15’s and Senior Boys Football teams all play Lochaber. On Wednesday 9th November, the Under 15’s will play Inverness Royal Academy following their win this week.
